This is a bit of a funny one, signal patterns have a web test that will tell you about your musical personality. Its a bit of a laugh to take part, what you do is rate a series of short clips then you get an interactive chart that details the results in categories to tell you about yourself!
Well curiosity got the better of me, you can view my results from the widget posted on the left!
Give it a go, see if you really are into the music you think you are into!

musical taste test

Signal Patterns have been doing some cool Facebook integration which offers to find people within your network who have similar music tastes. If my memory serves correctly they even created an application that matches friends with similar political and cultural backgrounds. Cool idea but I can't see the long-term business model for these guys.
One of the benefits of having a diverse social network (online or offline) is that you can discover new things. New music, new films, new books... you get the idea.
What the Web has in effect achieved is amazing. Long Tail economics means that brands like iTunes enable individuals to become a lot more ecclectic in their musical tastes.
Online music sales now mean that Johnny Cash can in theory become a real contender for the Christmas No. 1. Back catalogues are not dead - they're there to discover (in the same way a library houses dusty books for people to take down, read and pass-on).
So do people still tend to listen to just one type of music these days? Did they ever? Surely there's only one type of music personality for the future: Ecclectic.
Have a great Xmas y'all!
